The Children’s Museum of Stockton seeks an enthusiastic executive director to lead our site of curiosity and learning.

The museum is embarking on its 30th year dedicated to its mission of education and discovery for young children. Last year the museum saw more than 40,000 visitors, and hosted community events and free admission days.

The Executive Director is in charge of the museum’s organizational development, day-to-day operations and three full- time staff plus part-time and volunteer staff. The executive Director reports to the board of directors. The position is full-time and exempt.

The executive director’s works schedule is flexible, determined by the needs of the Museum. Some weekend work is expected as the Museum is open Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Essential Duties
1.  Provide leadership to employees and volunteers to implement the Museum’s mission.
2. Direct all day-to day operations and programming.
3. Establish positive relationships with community groups and area museums.
4. Meet with local schools to promote field trips.
5. Research and write grants to fund museum improvements and creative programming.
6. Assist the Board with donor engagement, fund development and volunteer programs.
7. Enhance educational programming for exhibits

Finance and Administration
1.  Supervise the day-to-day management of all incoming funds, preparation of financial report and oversee the annual budget.
2.  Manage all business processes, including fiscal controls, payroll, and information systems which ensure compliance with California state employment laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
3. Hire, train and supervise employees. Conduct annual staff performance evaluations.

Community Relations
1.  Demonstrate sensitivity, cultural relevance and understanding of the diverse communities the museum supports. Strong emphasis is placed on diversity, equity, and inclusion in all programs, hiring practices and outreach.
2.  Promote the Museum within the community. Supervise media communications.
3.  Represent the Museum at community events.
4.   Develop partnerships with community organizations, businesses, school districts and local government.

Required Experience and Education
1.  Bachelor’s degree and/or at least 3 years of nonprofit leadership experience.
2.  Proven track record of fundraising and strategic planning.
3.  Experience managing staff and annual budgets.
4.  Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
5.  Knowledge of computer programs (e.g. Word, Excel, QuickBooks).
6.  Willingness to work various hours for special events.

Salary range is $ 70,000 to $80,000; health insurance
